About the Board of Commissioners

The Pennington County Board of Commissioners is the governing authority for Pennington County. The Board consists of five Commissioners elected by the citizens of Pennington County to represent the interests of the community and oversee the administration of county government.

The Board establishes county policy, adopts ordinances and resolutions, approves the annual budget, and provides oversight of county services. Through these responsibilities, the Board works to protect the health, safety, and welfare of Pennington County residents while ensuring public resources are managed responsibly.

In addition to their responsibilities as Commissioners, Board members serve on local, state, and regional boards and committees, representing Pennington County on issues that affect our communities.

Meeting Schedule

The Pennington County Board of Commissioners meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the Commission Chambers at the County Administration Building, located at 900 Concourse Drive, Rapid City, SD.

Commission meetings are open to the public and provide an opportunity for residents to observe County business, offer public comment on agenda items through the speaker request process, and follow the Board as it considers agenda items, hears presentations, and votes on matters affecting Pennington County.
