The Pennington County Information Technology Department provides a variety of services to County Departments to support the business needs of Pennington County. These services include consulting, system development, Internet, strategic planning, data center services, application support and network services.
Information Technology Staff Responsibilities
- analyze and troubleshoot County user hardware and software problems and recommend solutions;
- develop and maintain software systems to insure statutory compliance as well as the proper flow of County information;
- develop and maintain appropriate hardware networking systems;
- analyze cost savings to the County;
- analyze system use of space, configuration and future needs

General information for job applicants
The Pennington County Information Technology Department provides end-user support for approximately 600 users and approximately 90 Windows-based servers, spread across multiple facilities within Pennington County. In addition to providing hardware and network infrastructure support service, our staff also includes several software developers who create and maintain software used by some County departments.
When job openings occur within our hardware and network support group, we are generally looking for individuals with several years of business experience with Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft servers, and/or VMWare virtual servers. For openings in our software development group, we are generally looking for individuals with several years of business experience programming with Visual Basic.
Information Technology - Vendor Information
The Pennington County Information Technology Department is not currently soliciting new vendors for hardware, software, or services. When the County has a need for a new vendor or product we research the available options and make our selection based on functionality, cost, and other factors. We typically do not respond to unsolicitated phone calls or e-mail from vendors. If you are interested in working with us we suggest you work with the State of South Dakota to get on the SD State Bid list.
