This page serves to provide the public with an update on the various projects that the Highway Department is working on. The information is updated monthly and represents the previous month's projects. 

Major Road Projects

  • Chip sealing is done for the season.
  • Microsurfacing work is being done in the Quinn & Silver City areas. 
  • Pavement markings are about ½ done for the season. 
  • FMG has submitted plans to DOT for final review to prepare to bid this fall for the Reservoir Road/Lamb Rd project.

Major Bridge Projects

  • Bridge preservation work has had its pre-construction meeting and is waiting for a start date.

Division Updates

Hill City
  • 1 culvert replaced on Black Fox
  • 2 culverts replaced on W Deerfield
  • 1 metal culvert replaced on OHC (Old Hill City Rd)
  • Multiple concrete culverts repaired on OHC
  • Hauling chips for chip seal, helping with RC chip seal
  • Blading
  • Reno Gulch Drainage project
  • Fall mowing starting soon
New Underwood
  • Blading gravel
  • Training new employee in the Motorgrader
  • 173rd drainage work
  • Cleaned up the shop
  • Helped Rapid City with Chip Seal
  • Culvert replaced on 173rd
Rapid City
  • Deep Patch – worked on approaches and patched the sinkhole on Sharp Dr.
  • AMZ – North of town
  • Fog/Prime seal for 225th & Old Folsom; cement stabilization
  • Guardrail maintenance
  • Ashland Heights area prepped for prime. Primed and sanded Ashland area and Hidden Springs
  • Chip sealed with the help of New Underwood and Hill City hauling chips
  • Gravel maintenance
Wall
  • Mag Water – completed Elm Springs & Creighton
  • Patching – Creighton base, subgrade repair capped with base course
  • Blading
  • Mowing 3 days of contract roads
  • Culvert maint/drainage – 4 days on Quinn Rd and 3 days on Wilsey Rd
  • Fall mowing starting in the next couple of weeks

Major Weather Events

  • There was a bad hailstorm that occurred on August 11th in the Rockerville area. Crews plowed and swept hail, pine needles, pine cones, and branches. Then, the next day, swept all Rally roads.
  • We have also had several localized significant rainfall events.
