The CBISA (Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Substance Abuse) program is a cognitive behavioral treatment approach that will assist you in learning skills and strategies for avoiding substance abuse.

The program focuses on assisting you with identifying your high‑risk situations and how to deal with those situations as they arise.  In contrast to talk-therapy treatment approaches, this program places heavy emphasis on skill-building activities.  These activities will assist you with developing cognitive, social, emotional, coping, and problem-solving skills.

Just as the actions we repeatedly perform become habits, so do our repeated thoughts.  In cognitive behavioral treatment, you will learn new behaviors that will lead to increased success and goal achievement.  These new behaviors are supported by changes in your thoughts.

CBISA Aftercare is an advanced practice phase which begins after completing CBISA.  Aftercare will assist you with continuing to identify and manage your high‑risk situations.  In order to be successful using the skills in your daily life, you will benefit from practicing them in a variety of situations with increasing difficulty; therefore, as you become more familiar with using the skills, you will learn how to handle more realistic pressure.

Entry into the CBISA program is by referral only. This program is funded by outside agencies including SD Dept. of Social Services Criminal Justice Initiative, Unified Judicial System and United States Bureau of Prisons.

Addiction Treatment Services, located at the Care Campus, currently has Chemical Dependency Counselors that conduct drug and alcohol assessments.

The agency utilizes the ASAM Patient Placement Criteria for the Treatment of Substance-Related Disorders to determine the appropriate level of care.

An assessment interview typically takes 1-2 hours to complete. Walk-in assessments are available Monday through Friday beginning at 8:00 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of assessments are completed each day, it is recommended to come as early as possible.

All DUI-1 evaluations are $175.00. All other evaluations are $275.00. State funding is available for those who qualify.

This is a 12-hour, evidenced-based, interactive educational program that assists offenders in exploring how they might want to adjust high-risk behaviors that brought them to this class. The curriculum provides information regarding the risks and consequences of substance use and abuse and how their own use of alcohol or other drugs may be causing problems in their life today and how it may affect them in the future.

This course is based on the belief that people have the power to change their behavior if they have the motivation and tools to do so. Participants will use a workbook, known as Interactive Journaling, throughout the program and will help guide the choices they make in the future. It is primarily designed for first offenders but can be effective for repeat offenders as well.

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) is a systematic, cognitive-behavioral approach that provides step-by-step treatment strategies that are designed to enhance self-image, promote emotional growth, and facilitate the development of higher stages of moral reasoning. All of these goals are ultimately demonstrated by more appropriate behavior on the part of the program participants. The program focuses on completing 12 steps that participants complete at their own pace but are still held accountable. The steps include such principles as trust, honesty, acceptance, commitment to change, keeping moral commitments, and choosing moral goals.

Entry into the MRT program is by referral only. This program is funded by outside agencies including the SD Dept of Social Services Criminal Justice Initiative, the Unified Judicial System and the US Bureau of Prisons.
