After payment the office will enter the information on 4-H Online and your account will change to "Active", you are then ready for the new 4-H Year.

When describing 4-H to someone new, we often use the analogy of a super department store. 4-H is like a “store” full of wonderful, fun, positive educational programs. It has all the workshops, projects, contests, trips, conferences, camps, or activities you could possibly want or need. Your club leaders and 4-H staff are like the “greeters” at the front of the store to help you find what you need.

The 4-H program is so large and the opportunities so vast it can sometimes seem overwhelming when you are new. Just keep in mind that your family’s 4-H experience can be tailor-made to fit your goals, schedule, and interests. That is one reason why 4-H is such a great program. You can be involved as a whole family, learning, and growing together.

4-H Ages:

Cloverbuds 5-7: youth under this age range is not allowed to show large livestock or join shooting sports

Beginners 8-10

Juniors 11-13

Seniors 14-18

A 4-H member age eligibility, goes by how old the youth is on January 1st of the 4-H year, (keep in mind that the 4-H year begins in October 1st and ends on September 30th of the following year).

For example, if the current 4-H year is October 1st, 2023- to September 30th, 2024 and Johnny will be 8 years old on December 30th, 2023, he will be a Beginner on October 1, 2023 because he will be 8 on January 1, 2024.

Want to make a difference? Eager to give back to your community? Enjoy working with young people? Ready to share your special talents?

There are a lot of reasons to become a Pennington County 4-H volunteer! Volunteers are critical to the success of 4-H youth by serving in a number of capacities: some choose to help at camp, teach a workshop or lead a club, while others chaperone an event, lend their professional skills or help at the fair.

As they provide hands-on guidance and real-world experience, these volunteers also offer young people another crucially important element: a healthy adult role model who helps build their confidence and ignite their dreams for the future. By giving your time to young people in your community, you'll help them answer life's little questions, achieve big dreams, and prepare for a lifetime of success.
