The Global Training unit is under the direction of Tony Verchio. The unit consists of a Law Enforcement Training Coordinator, a Corrections Training Coordinator and an Administrative Assistant. The unit is responsible for coordinating and facilitating any internal, external and remedial training for all Sheriff's Office personnel. They also are responsible for maintaining Sheriff's Office employee training records.

Accreditation standards require 40 hours annually for each sworn corrections staff. South Dakota Law mandates 40 hours of training every two years for sworn law enforcement deputies. The Sheriff's Office sets a minimum of hours each year covering specific areas such as firearms (annually), domestic violence training (every 4 years), and de-escalation/crisis intervention training. Additional hours of training routinely take place when the need arises.

The Pennington County Sheriff's Office invests in the continued training of their employees to ensure they are able to provide the best services to the citizens of Pennington County.
